While on a trip to California, a friend of mine came across a damaged doctor’s bag from the 1940s. It was my goal to revamp the bag, giving it new life in order for it to be used again.
I researched the history of the bag in order to find out what type of bag it was as well as the type of materials used around that time period. This enabled me to find similar materials and hardware so that I could properly keep this bag looking authentic rather than more modern.
Since this bag is leather and the leather is heavily destroyed on the bottom, I researched the process of handling this type of leather and other materials that originally went into making the bag. The next steps I took were taking apart the bag so I could re-create patterns with the new materials.

The bag now has a new lining, created from patterns I constructed from the original parts of the bag, a new bottom of the bag along with new hardware on the bottom of the bag with re-enforced handles and straps.
